WORK to transform a derelict plot of land in Tamworth to provide new homes will soon be underway.
Elan Homes has acquired a 2.5 acre site on Dosthill Road and is about to start preparing the land for housing.
Detailed planning consent for the 37-home scheme was granted by Tamworth Borough Council in August.
During the planning process, Dosthill councillor Jeremy Oates, who is leader of Tamworth Borough Council, said the former brownfield site needed to be developed after laying empty for decades.
Ben Jowett, head of land at Elan Homes Midlands, said: “The site is within the Wilnecote Regeneration Corridor, an area identified as having potential for housing development, as detailed within the adopted Tamworth Local Plan. Now that we’ve completed the purchase of the site, we’re preparing to start work to regenerate a derelict empty plot of land. Our approved plans will see the land brought back into good use to provide housing.”
The scheme, known as Dosthill Gate, will deliver 29 private sale properties – seven homes with two bedrooms, 16 with three bedrooms and six with four bedrooms.
The remaining eight homes will include a choice of two and three-bedroom designs, available for affordable rent, discount to market value or under the First Home shared equity scheme.
Along with new homes, the development will lead to investment in the local area of more than £130,000. Community Infrastructure Levy contributions in excess of £100,000 will be paid and a further £30,000 bio-diversity payment will also be made by the homebuilder.
Elan is aiming to release the first homes at the development for sale in 2023.
The homebuilder, with its regional headquarter in Coleshill, has a proven track record of creating high quality, energy efficient new homes across Staffordshire, having built new homes in Baswich, Elford, Kinver, Loggerheads, Tettenhall and Wombourne. The homebuilder recently started work on a new housing development in Lichfield. Lorne House @ The Sidings will see Elan convert a former health club into modern apartments and build a collection of new homes.
