A characterful property, once a gatehouse to a “micro estate” in Swinton will be open for viewing this Saturday (March 8).
Elan Homes has completed the transformation of what was previously known as Birchfield House, a “micro-estate”, created in the second half of the 19th century.
Located on Worsley Road, it comprised a main house, gardens, two ‘gatehouses’, a road approaching the house with a gated entrance and boundary walls. The main house, which was more recently used as nursing home, has been demolished, with 18 new homes built on the land.
The original ‘gatehouses’ have been retained, preserved and enhanced to provide characterful two-bedroom homes. One of these, known as the Coach House, is the final home available at Birchfield Court.
Marie Morris, sales and marketing director for Elan Homes in the North, said: “It’s important that while we look to the future and create energy efficient homes for modern lifestyles, we remember the past. We’re pleased to have been able to do just that in Swinton by giving the gatehouses a new lease of life as new homes. From the outside, the Coach House still looks traditional – it’s a cute and characterful double fronted property and people are curious about what it’s like inside. With that in mind, we’re hosting an open house event so they can appreciate the layout for themselves. Buying this home is an ideal solution for those who love the idea of owning an older property but don’t have the skills or the budget to embark on a major renovation project.”
At ground level, the Coach House has a combined kitchen and dining room at the front, with a lounge at the rear and a private garden. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms and a bathroom.
As part of the renovations to transform the properties for 21st century living, Elan has replaced the old timber window frames with modern UPVC frames with double glazing; fitted highly energy efficient heating systems including boilers and radiators; plus, a well-equipped kitchen and sleek bathroom.
The Coach House is priced from £224,995 and is available fully furnished. There’s also the offer of a £5,000 deposit contribution.
“The Coach House is an ideal option for a first time buyer, downsizer or someone starting over after a change of circumstances,” Marie added.
“It’s a fantastic alternative to city centre apartment living with the benefit of your own outside space and easy access to the Manchester via the nearby A580.”
The homes at Birchfield Court offer an ideal base for commuters as they are being built less than a mile from Swinton station, only five miles from Manchester city centre and close to the East Lancashire Road (A580) which also provides quick access to the motorway network to both Manchester and Liverpool.
